LATE START EARNER: My Journey to Financial Independence

Hi there and welcome! I am writing this personal finance and lifestyle blog as a way to document my journey to financial independence and freedom, practice writing for a larger audience, and hopefully help and inspire others along the way.

What makes this blog different?

Personal finances is personal, and every single one of us has a unique story to tell. I would also go as far as to say that financial debt is emotional debt, and I sure was carrying around extra weight for more than a few years. I started this blog in January 2021 from the perspective of someone whose earned income leap-frogged 10x from an annual $20K graduate school stipend to a high income ($200K+) in my mid-thirties (hence, the "late start"). Like any human out there, I am not perfect: I've made my share of bad financial decisions and mistakes, and will certainly continue to do so. In this blog, I will share regular updates on my progress toward financial independence by reporting my net worth, micro day-to-day financial decisions, early retirement strategies, and more.

My goal is to reach financial independence sooner than later. However, unlike other FI or FIRE enthusiasts, I value a balanced approach and am not willing to live a life of intense stress over the next 10 years just to hit FI and collapse. I already went through a similar cycle of intense multi-year suffering and sacrifice in graduate school, am still emotionally recovering from it, and do not care to repeat the cycle. Instead, my goal is to craft the life I want to live and financially plan for the resources I need to sustain this life forever on my own terms.

Who is this blog for?

Anyone interested in another take on reaching financial independence: personal finance and financial independence enthusiasts, late start high earners (e.g. lawyers, doctors, post-graduates in industry), first-generation investors, first-time investors, and more.
